Accessibility 101

UI Web Accessibility Policy

University of Iowa policy requires that all web content conform to accessibility standards described in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.0, level AA (WCAG 2.0, Level AA), as set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).  By policy, University units are charged with developing and implementing a web accessibility strategy per the Implementation section of the policy.

If web content is published on behalf of the University, and conducts University business, it is subject to the Web Accessibility policy, regardless of where it is hosted.

What's covered under the web accessibility policy?

All web-based content published after November 1, 2011 is expected to conform to the web accessibility policy.  This includes, but is not limited to:

  • University websites
  • Online learning materials
  • Online training and orientation materials
  • Online media
  • Promotional and recruitment video
  • Web-based communications and messaging
